About Forays'24

"Mathematics is the music of reason" - So goes the new age adage and FORAYS, the annual mathematics festival at IIT Madras is testimony to it. FORAYS is a manifestation of mathematical erudition of the highest order; a test of intellect and imagination; a provocative game of mathematical techniques - from guessing to counting! FORAYS is indeed a tryst with maths.

The Department of Mathematics has been successful in bringing together the brightest young minds every year for a mathematical fiesta. Brimming with vigour and innovation, FORAYS 2024 aspires to take this success to new heights.

So join us for two days filled with mathematical adventures in the form of fun events, quizzes, guest lectures, and even more !

  • "Forays" is the annual Mathematics Fest of IIT Madras, Chennai. It is a 2-days fest, filled with events, guest lectures, quizzes and so on.

  • Forays'24 is an offline Mathematics Fest happening in IIT Madras.


  • For College:

    There is no eligiblity criteria based on your degree. Since Forays'24 is a mathematics fest, students with a background in mathematics (or) related fields are likely to participate. Nevertheless, being a math enthusiast is more than enough to participate. All it requires is your enthusiasm !!


    For School:

    Events are conducted across 3 categories.

    • Category I - Grades 6, 7 and 8
    • Category II - Grades 9 and 10
    • Category III - Grades 11 and 12

    A student belonging to any one of the above categories is eligible for participating in Forays'24.

  • For College Students:

    1. Click the Register button below. This will open a google form in a new tab.
    2. Fill the form, and upload the registration payment screenshot in the same form. For payment, Account details are mentioned in the form.
    3. Completing the above two steps means that you have successfully registered for Forays'24.
    4. On the Day 1 of Forays'24 (24.02.24), reach the venue by morning, and verify your online registration. The registration desks will be active from 6 AM to 8 AM.

    For School Students:

    1. Click the Register button below. This will open a google form in a new tab.
    2. Fill the form, and upload the registration payment screenshot in the same form. For payment, Account details are mentioned in the form.
    3. Completing the above two steps means that you have successfully registered for Forays'24.
    4. Note:The school has to send a fill the hard copy registration form (which they would have received by post), scan it, and then send the scanned pdf to registration@foraysiitm.org. This helps to maintain a fair distribution of participants across schools.
    5. On the Day 2 of Forays'24 (25.02.24), reach the venue by morning, and verify your online registration. The registration desks will be active from 6 AM to 8 AM.

  • Yes. Lunch will be arranged for the participants. However, one has to show the coupon to get the food. Coupon will be given to the participants during the time of registration on the days of Forays'24.

  • Yes. Every participant will get a participation certificate, provided their registration was verified (between 6 AM - 8 AM) on the day of Forays'24.


  • Yes. Events are grouped into three categories, in such a way that a student can participate in atmost one event from each catgeory. During online registration (through the Register button below), A participant has to specify the event they want to register for in each category.

    Categories (For College events):

    • Category I - Nexus, Find the Flaws
    • Category II - Integration and Summation Bee, Mind Dash
    • Category III - Math Quiz, Challenge, Poster Presentation

    Categories (For School events):

    • Category I - Math Quiz, Math Sketch, Sudden Death
    • Category II - Cows and Bulls, Crossword
    • Category III - Mind Dash, Math Olympiad
